About
Bali
Bali is a small island with an area of
only 5,632 square kilometres (2,175 square miles). It measures just
55 miles (90 kilometres) from north to south, and 90 miles (140
kilometres) from east to west. This makes it easy to explore the
island on one-day tours - you can go anywhere you choose on the
island, and return to your hotel or villa the same evening.
| Located
two kilometres to the east of Jawa, Bali's climate, flora and
fauna are similar to its larger neighbour. The island is justly
famous for its many and varied landscapes, which include a spectacular
chain of six volcanoes stretching from east to west and ranging
from 1,350 meters to 3,014 meters in height, lush tropical forests,
crystal-clear crater lakes, fast-flowing rivers and deep ravines,
picturesque rice terraces, and fertile vegetable and
fruit gardens. The south of the island has white sandy beaches,
the other areas have beaches of grey or black volcanic sand.

at Tanah Lot Temple

Two
'must-see' sites are the Besakih Temple (known as the Bali
Mother temple) and the Tanah Lot Temple (the magical temple
on the water). The first stop on a tour is usually the village
of Batubulan to see performances of the Barong and Kris dances.
Afterwards you may visit the villages of Celuk (famous for
its silver jewelry) and Mas (renowned for its wood carving)
to see Balinese craftsmen at work. Ubud, Bali's cultural center,
has grown into a busy town with many art galleries and craft
shop.
A scenic drive along small roads overlooking beautiful rice
terraces brings you to the mountain village of

(5,000 feet above sea level) which offers spectacular views
